CCO Updated Response to COVID-19 for Candidates and Certificants

August 10, 2021—The lifting industry and personnel continue to be essential as the nation goes through cycles of COVID-related openings and closings. Since certification is required for this essential workforce, CCO is still able to test, in some cases with modifications to typical requirements.

As detailed below CCO continues to permit written (paper/pencil and computer-based) and practical testing safely during COVID-19. All other CCO polices remain in effect.

Paper/Pencil Testing

CCO continues to work with Test Site Coordinators to schedule and hold paper/pencil test administrations

At these test administrations, candidates should follow all applicable federal, state, and/or local directives or guidelines.

Examples of areas of consideration include:

  • Personal health conditions
  • Recent exposure to individuals who have tested positive for COVID
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Hygienic consumables

Test locations should follow all applicable Federal, State, and/or local directives or guidelines.

Examples of areas of consideration include:

  • Sanitization of registration areas, break areas, testing stations
  • Table/candidate spacing
  • Cleaning/sanitization of test area and materials
  • Availability of hygienic consumables

Computer-Based Testing

CCO’s computer-based testing (CBT) partner PSI has implemented policies at its testing centers to keep candidates and employees safe and minimize disruptions to testing services. Candidates can find real-time updates from PSI at www.psionline.com/covid.

Candidates planning to take exams via CBT should follow all applicable federal, state, and/or local directives or guidelines.

Examples of areas of consideration include:

  • Personal health conditions
  • Recent exposure to individuals who have tested positive for COVID
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Hygienic consumables

CBT site information:

  • Test centers are following all applicable federal, state, and/or local directives or guidelines.
  • Due to federal, state, and/or local directives or guidelines, some sites may have to adjust scheduling availability to meet requirements.
  • Testing equipment is being wiped down thoroughly with antibacterial wipes between use.
  • Candidates are required to wear a face covering at testing centers.

Practical Exams:

CCO has issued the following guidance to its Practical Examiners for safely conducting practical exams:

  • Practical Examiners and Test Site Coordinators should follow all applicable federal, state, and/or local directives or guidelines.
