NCCCO Commission Travels to California for 40th Biannual Meeting

May 2016—More than 60 NCCCO Commissioners, committee members, and guests gathered in Sacramento, CA, in April for the Commission’s 40th Biannual Meeting.

The nearly week-long event concluded with the full Commission meeting, which featured updates to the rulemaking process for several pending OSHA regulations (including crane operator qualification and technical amendments, and communication tower safety), reports on recent activities by the NCCCO Exam Management Committees, and a report of recent actions taken by the NCCCO Board of Directors.

The West Coast meeting made for a convenient location for top safety representatives from Cal-OSHA as well as several prominent California contractors to attend and experience for themselves how the NCCCO Commission and its various exam management committees function.

Two Commissioners were elected by unanimous consent of the Commission: Derek Sather, IUOE Local 324, and Jeff Smith, ExxonMobil. Jorge Vial, Vial Equipment Sales and Service, was re-elected to a further five-year term. James Stewart, IUOE Local 542, was elected as Alternate to Derek Sather.

The Commissioners Meeting as well as the week of committee meetings that preceded it were sponsored by the Operating Engineers Local #3 Journeyman Apprentice Training Center and the Crane Industry Joint Labor/Management Cooperative Trust Fund.
