ICUEE 2013 Preview

September 2013 - Attendees at this year’s International Construction & Utility Equipment Exposition (ICUEE) will have plenty of reasons to stop by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators’ Lift Safety Zone in Area N (N1053). In keeping with ICUEE’s nickname “The Demo Expo,” the Lift Safety Zone will feature demonstrations of the new CCO Service Truck Crane (STC) Operator certification practical exam, as well as demos of the CCO Digger Derrick Operator, Articulating Crane Operator, and Rigger practical exams. Qualified attendees will have an opportunity to try their hands on the equipment’s controls to get a feel for the nuances of each machine and test their skills on actual CCO practical exam courses.

The LSZ is dedicated to promoting safer working practices for those who work with and around cranes and related equipment and will be taking center stage at the show, occupying 10,000 square feet outside near the main entrance. NCCCO will have crane experts on hand to walk attendees through the test development process and point out the safety benefits of CCO certification. In addition to the practical test courses for service truck cranes, digger derricks, and articulating cranes—equipment used frequently in the utility industry—the LSZ will also feature demos of the CCO Rigger Level I and Rigger Level II practical exams.

To help candidates and certificants make the most of their time at ICUEE, NCCCO will be holding initial and recertification written exams for all of its certification programs on Tuesday and Thursday, as well as practical exams for the new Service Truck Crane Operator certification on Thursday. These exam administrations will provide a convenient way for attendees to prepare for OSHA’s upcoming deadline for crane operator certification and will enable them to leave the show CCO-certified. The written STC certification exam takes approximately 90 minutes and the practical exam takes approximately 45 minutes. Those who pass both exams will receive a CCO Service Truck Crane (STC) operator certification, valid for five years, reflecting their competence to operate service truck cranes. To register for these exams, contact Shawna Parham at (703) 560-2391, ext. 214 or sparham@nccco.org.

Presented by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), ICUEE will be held October 1-3 in Louisville, KY, and expects to host over 800 exhibitors and more than 16,000 attendees. NCCCO is participating to help utility contractors and municipalities understand the safety and cost benefits of lifting personnel certification. Attendees will have ample opportunities to learn about new technologies, innovations, insights, and trends affecting the utilities industry.

In addition to demos of the latest equipment, opportunities to meet with experts, and networking with peers, ICUEE education will be offered through co-located events, including training for the new CCO Service Truck Crane operator exams, presented by Venturo Training Services. Other sessions and workshops will provide a more comprehensive understanding and full insight into key areas or industry segments.
