July 2009 – Commissioner of Labor for the State of Maryland, Ron DeJuliis, was the special guest at a Recognition Luncheon in his honor held in conjunction with the spring meetings of the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) in May.
“I so admire the work of NCCCO and all the scores of volunteers from all sides of the industry that come together to make CCO certification such a success,” said Commissioner DeJuliis. “It’s such a great example of everyone working together for the benefit of the industry.”

n his introductory remarks, NCCCO Executive Director, Graham Brent, paid tribute to Commissioner DeJuliis for his proactive stance in championing critical crane safety regulation in the state.
“Although we were all deeply troubled by the spate of high-profile accidents the industry experienced last year, it took someone with the leadership of the Commissioner to step up and rally Maryland industry around a common cause,” he said. Brent noted that the new regulation developed by Commissioner DeJuliis’ task force was unique in its requirements for both riggers and signalpersons in the state of Maryland.
Commissioner DeJuliis, himself a 30 year crane veteran, applauded the non-partisan nature of the coalition that developed the language. “We set these crane regulations in place by virtue of an unprecedented coalition of interests,” he said. “NCCCO played an invaluable role in these efforts.”
