What is the Committed to Crane Safety Program?
The Committed to Crane Safety Program is an employer recognition program developed by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) to recognize companies that have demonstrated their commitment to safety by hiring CCO-certified personnel.
Why did NCCCO develop this Program?
NCCCO recognizes the time, effort, and resources expended by companies in obtaining certification for their crane operators and related personnel. Crane operators, signalpersons, and riggers receive recognition for their knowledge and skill related to crane operations when they are issued a CCO certification card. It seems only fitting that employers should also be honored for their commitment.
What are the benefits of participating in the Committed to Crane Safety Program?
Participating companies demonstrate they are Committed to Crane Safety by hiring CCO-certified personnel. In so doing, they identify themselves as companies who strive for excellence in their hiring and training efforts. All companies that successfully qualify for entry into the program receive a special Recognition Package which includes:
- Rights to use the unique “Proudly Employing” CCO logo, reserved exclusively for qualifying companies in marketing and advertising materials, on company website, etc.
- Free listing in the Committed to Crane Safety Employer Recognition Directory, an online tool for project owners and other potential clients looking for the most safety-conscious employers, with a link to the company’s website
- A special wall plaque suitable for front-office or executive boardroom display
- A Press Release template about the company’s successful entry into the program for use by the company in local and national media
- Consideration for publication of a company spotlight on the Committed to Crane Safety website, ACT magazine, and the CCOnline newsletter
Are there separate programs for crane operators, signalpersons and riggers?
Yes. Companies may apply for one, two, or all three programs. A Recognition Package has been tailored for each program.
Why would my company participate?
Companies like yours work hard to earn, maintain, and protect their reputation in the industry. Companies that display their recognition plaque or use the exclusive program logo in their promotional activities enhance their standing in the industry by demonstrating to their clients, potential clients, and employees that safety is a priority. These companies are nationally recognized for their achievement on the NCCCO website, in the CCOnline newsletter, and in other industry media.
Who is eligible to participate in this recognition program?
Companies that employ CCO-certified personnel who are actively engaged in their craft are eligible to apply for the Committed to Crane Safety Program. Qualifying companies may have their primary business activity in the fields of general construction, crane rental, sign installation, steel erection, machinery installation, manufacturing, or petrochemicals.
How can my company participate?
Companies interested in demonstrating they are Committed to Crane Safety submit an online application, along with supporting documentation. Examples of such documentation may include the percentage and/or number of operators, signalpersons, and riggers at the company who are CCO-certified, a copy of the employer’s hiring policy requiring CCO certification, and the number of years the policy has been in place.
How long is recognition good for?
Recognition is valid for one year. Towards the end of each calendar year an email reminder is sent to each enrolled company with an application and instructions for renewing its status. Renewal applications are due prior to the expiration date of the recognition status.
What are the costs associated with the program?
There is no fee to participate. As part of its overall mission of promoting crane safety and best practices in personnel certification NCCCO covers the cost of administering the program.
