Crane Inspector

Recertification

The following information applies specifically to the CCO Crane Inspector certifications.

CCO certification is valid for five years. Candidates must complete all of their recertification requirements during the 12 months prior to their certification’s expiration date. This includes:

As with initial certification, there is no requirement for a Practical Examination for recertification. To recertify, CCO-certified Mobile and Tower crane inspectors must complete the Core Recertification Exam as well as the recertification exam for the specialty(ies) they are currently certified as (Mobile Crane Inspector and/or Tower Crane Inspector). CCO-certified Overhead Crane Inspectors must only complete the Overhead Crane Comprehensive Recertification Exam.

  • The CCO Crane Inspector Core Recertification Examination consists of 25 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 30 minutes.

  • The CCO Mobile Crane Inspector Specialty Recertification Examination consists of 25 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 45 minutes.

  • The CCO Tower Crane Inspector Specialty Recertification Examination consists of 20 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 30 minutes.

  • The CCO Overhead Crane Inspector Comprehensive Recertification Examination consists of 45 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 45 minutes.

There is no grace period after certification has expired. Candidates whose certification has lapsed must take the full Written and Practical Examinations to be certified again.
